This policy relates to the Personal Information collected by Imperial Oil and its affiliates.
This policy applies to the collection, storage, use, disclosure, protection, verification, and accuracy of personal information collected and held by Imperial Oil.
“Personal Information” is any information that identifies you or could be reasonably associated with you. The Personal Information we collect may include contact information such as your name, email address, home address and postal code, phone number as well as specific products and services you purchase in Esso or Mobil branded retail stores or from us online.
We only collect personal information for purposes directly associated with our business activities.
Imperial Oil is committed to ensuring that you are informed about the way in which Personal Information will be used. Imperial Oil is also committed to protecting the privacy and security of the Personal Information of individuals with whom we interact in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
Consent:
Imperial Oil does not use or disclose Personal Information for purposes other than the purpose for which it is collected, except with your consent or as required by law. We collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent, which may be express or implied, or as required or permitted by law. By providing us with your personal information, you consent to our collection, use and disclosure of that Personal Information in accordance with this policy.
Information we collect:
Generally, you are under no obligation to provide your personal information. However, in certain cases, we may be unable to provide you with our services unless you provide your personal information.
We may combine the information you provide to us with information that we collect through automated methods, and with information we receive from other sources. For example, when you add a method of payment to your profile in our mobile app, we may combine your profile with information we receive from our payment processors or other providers regarding transactions made with the same payment credentials at our stations.
How we use the information we collect
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- to provide our products and services and contract with you, including customer support;
- to manage our relationship with you, including feedback management and for customer surveys;
- to provide you with general and personalized electronic and non-electronic direct marketing information and support our targeted advertising initiatives concerning our products and services as well as our business partners’ products and services (including promotions, contests, prize draws, competitions, and sweepstakes);
- business analytics, including consumer and operations research, to assess the effectiveness of our sales, online service, marketing, and advertising
- to comply with legal obligations, our policies, or our Standards of Business Conduct; and
- to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
We may use the information we collect about you in other ways, which we will tell you about at the time we collect it or before we begin using it for those other purposes.
Imperial Oil does not sell or rent any of your Personal Information.
How we share the information we collect
We do not sell your personal information and only share your information as described in this Privacy Statement or as otherwise communicated to you at the time we collect your information
We may share your personal information with:
- vendors who help us operate our business (including information technology service providers and marketing agencies that we use as well as those who use the information to detect or prevent fraud for us, and who may use the information to provide fraud detection and prevention services to others);
- public authority and courts;
- buyers or other parties involved in a corporate transaction if we decide to sell or transfer all or part of our business;
- our professional advisers such as our legal representatives, auditors and insurance brokers;
Marketing communications
If you are subscribed to our marketing communications, you can later opt out by following the opt-out instructions in the marketing communications we send you.
We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes unless you give us permission to do so. When we give you notice, and you consent, we will share your personal information as you direct us to.
Information security
We will keep your personal information secure.
We protect all personal information collected and held by us. We have implemented safeguards to prevent loss or theft, unauthorized access, use, disclosure, copying or modification. In the event that we transfer or disclose personal information to another entity, we require that entity to comply with the principles set out in these Principles and our Privacy Guidelines.
Information placed on your computer
We may store some information (commonly known as a "cookie") on your computer when you look at or use the Site. This information facilitates customizing your use of the Site and helps to avoid the need for you to re-enter your details every time you visit it. We cannot be responsible for their privacy policies and practices, and we make no representations or warranties about the privacy practices of those sites. Similarly, we cannot be responsible for the policies and practices of any site from which you linked to our Site. Dissemination of information to third parties
Communicating via the Internet and sending information, products, and services to you by other means necessarily involves your Personal Information passing through or being handled by third parties, but Imperial Oil does not sell or distribute your Personal Information to third parties for purposes of allowing them to market their products and services to you.
We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include fulfilling orders, deliveries, sending postal mail and e-mail, removing repetitive information from customer lists, analyzing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments, and providing customer service. They have access to Personal Information needed to perform their functions but may not use it for other purposes.
Personal data collected by Imperial Oil may be transferred among its various divisions and affiliated companies, around the world. Such transfers may involve the transfer of Personal Information from countries within the European Economic Area to countries outside the E.E.A. By submitting data on the Site, the visitor provides explicit consent to these transfers, including transborder transmission of data covered by this Privacy Statement.

Imperial Oil is bound by law to disclose any Personal Information about its customers to satisfy any law, regulation, or government regulations. To that end, we will cooperate with any law enforcement body in any investigation about unlawful activity on this site.

Some or all of the Personal Information we collect may also be stored in a cloud-based structure with servers in Canada and in the United States.
Only Imperial Oil employees, and Imperial Oil’s duly authorized representatives and agents, who have a need to access your file in carrying out their responsibilities, will have access to your Personal Information. You have a right to access the Personal Information contained in your file.
