Apply for funding

Since the 1890s when Imperial donated to the fisherman’s mission of Newfoundland and Labrador we’ve been inspired by community-building organizations across Canada. We offer financial and volunteer support to hundreds of these organizations each year.

Please carefully review the eligibility criteria below to ensure your application is complete and compelling, and the application process is smooth. Your application should clearly state how your project aligns with at least one of our focus areas for giving or supports a community in one of our operating areas.

All applications and proposals must be submitted online. Requests submitted by any other means will not be considered. You can expect to hear from us within four to six weeks of your application date.

To be eligible for a grant from Imperial, an organization must be one of the following:

  • a charitable organization with a valid CRA registration number
  • a registered non-profit organization with a valid B/N business registration number
  • a Canadian public education institution or a government body
  • a local community or Indigenous group

And, your program or event should fall into one of our areas of focus to:

  • promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) with a focus on trades and technologies in the energy sector
  • advance energy literacy and conservation
  • build capacity or leadership for Indigenous people or areas
  • directly support local community initiatives in areas where we have an operating interest, including:
    • Alberta: Bonnyville, Calgary, Carstairs, Cold Lake, Edmonton, Fort McMurray and surrounding communities in Wood Buffalo, Nanton, Olds
    • British Columbia: Fort Nelson, Fort St John, Prince Rupert
    • Ontario: Nanticoke, Sarnia
    • New Brunswick: Moncton
    • Newfoundland and Labrador: St. John’s
    • Northwest Territories: Aklavik, Colville Lake, Deline, Fort Good Hope, Fort McPherson, Fort Providence, Hay River, Inuvik Norman Wells, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Tsiigehtchic, Tulita,Tuktoyaktuk, Ulukhaktok
    • Nova Scotia: Dartmouth, Goldboro, Halifax, Point Tupper

Not eligible

  • for-profit business 
  • organizations based outside of Canada
  • activities taking place outside of Canada
  • political parties or candidates
  • individual applicants or individual pursuits, including travel
  • advocacy or lobby groups
  • religious or politically-affiliated organizations
  • endowments or matching grants
  • capital campaigns
  • building infrastructure
  • on-going operating budgets
  • private clubs funded through membership fees
  • scholarship chair programs
  • debt-reduction campaigns
  • trusts or funds
